Rediscover a Lost Civilisation Since the closing of Richmond Ice Rink World Skating has quietly lost its excellence. School Figures are no longer practised or even part of competitions. Children of West London have to make do with outrageously expensive entrance fees on outdoor `temporary’ rinks without any prospect of being taught the basics. One can only guess what the 15,000 per week (who would be our skaters of the future) are doing without this healthy artistic discipline. This short sighted disaster, the thirst for greed, has about 50 people responsible – their lives blighted as the blame will not go away, but the children who have been denied ice skating runs into millions in the 13 years since the `demolition’.   Richmond with its School Figures, lessons, disciplines and World Class Tuition, the epicentre of ice skating must return. Those in charge of planning, London politicians & Crown Estates can become heroes – NOW – The multi purpose indoor stadium of 5000 seats and two ice pads is essential for a civilised world.  Download Bulletin No 87 here

Artists impression of the proposed ice rink in the Old Deer Park
This is an artists impression of the ice rink development proposal by ISIS (International School of Ice Skating) for the South Park region of the Old Deer Park, behind Pools on the Park. It is designed with the buildings of Kew Gardens playing an influential role in the architectural design process and appearance of the development. The principal design philosophy has been based on application of the glass metaphor in keeping with the ice skating school itself. Crystalline, reflective, mirror-like materials support the theme of ice and connect with the transparency of the ice rink structure and buildings at Kew Gardens. This is a building that attempts to marry into the existing landscape and buildings adjacent. It is not proposed that any trees be removed as they are valued for enhancing the views. The International School of Ice Skating is designed to enhance the living environment in a similar way to the Royal School of Ballet in Richmond Park. The objective is one of long-term sustainable development and the creation of an asset for the local community to be proud of. For further information contact Dreamscapes on 07905 781746
ANOTHER WHITEWASH
The Unitary Development Plan (UDP) Inquiry Inspector, Dr Robbins, at huge cost to the Richmond Council Tax payer (£225,000) has proposed that Richmond Council does NOT have a legal obligation to help get the ice rink back. This is public servants clubbing together pretending they do no wrong, and is outrageous. Mistakes were made as set out in the Appeal Court Judgement of April 27 1994 and must be rectified. Any new Council must be responsible for the errors of any previous Council, and repair any errors. Legal challenges have therefore been lodged against the Planning Inspectorate and Richmond Council (who have decided to go along with the Inspector's recommendations). The errors of the past must be put right, the ice rink return to Richmond, before respect for government is regained, the youth of London must have somewhere to skate and dream of championship.
